OnePlus ditches HydrogenOS in favor of ColorOS, but so far only in the Chinese market
On the official OnePlus forum today, Gary C, head of OxygenOS development, announced that the new OnePlus 9 family of smartphones for the Chinese market would ship with ColorOS instead of HydrogenOS. But this will not affect the global versions of smartphones.
“As a global technology company, we are always looking for ways to provide the best user experience to our customers around the world. We believe the new operating system add-on will give Chinese audiences a new experience with our software, ”says Gary in his post.
These changes will not affect the global versions of the OnePlus 9 in any way – they will still run on OxygenOS. However, this news marks the end of HydrogenOS (it used to be used in the company’s Chinese smartphones). Earlier in January, there was news of the merger of the hardware and software development teams OnePlus and Oppo. So this event is the first outcome of this process.
ColorOS was originally developed by the Oppo brand back in 2013. Chinese tech conglomerate BBK Electronics previously used ColorOS as a fork for Realme smartphones until Realme UI came along.
