OnePlus unveils Nord smartphone at world’s first AR presentation: € 399 mid-range

As promised, OnePlus today unveiled its new mid-range smartphone Nord. Its key difference from the current flagship of the company was the use of a single-chip system Snapdragon 765G instead of Snapdragon 865. But the cost of the Nord turned out to be much lower – the younger version of the device will be available for only € 399.

one plus

The presentation of the novelty took place as part of the world’s first AR presentation (via a special application for Android and iOS ). True, almost the entire augmented reality effect was initially reduced to the output of a virtual screen with broadcast – a very strange and inconvenient approach.

But then the broadcast became much more interesting: in particular, along the way, inscriptions and company products (both the past and, of course, Nord) flew out in 3D – everything could be brought closer (it is especially interesting to look inside the device during the demonstration of the “sections”) by simply sliding the smartphone forward. Sometimes the broadcast would switch to normal mode.

It is unlikely that such announcements will become widespread in the future, but at least OnePlus managed to distinguish itself from this presentation. By the way, at the end of the broadcast, OnePlus offered to unpack the Nord in augmented reality using the same application.

Let’s start with the fun part: the mid-range Nord got a 6.44-inch flat OLED display with a 1080p resolution and 90 Hz refresh rate, support for 5G networks in the sub-6 GHz band, a fairly capacious 4115 mAh battery with Warp Charge 30T high-speed wireless charging. The key simplification over the OnePlus 8 is the Snapdragon 765G SoC.

On the back of the OnePlus Nord is a camera with a 48MP main module with a Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8MP ultra wide-angle sensor, a 2MP macro module, and a 5MP depth sensor. Technically, there is one more module here than in the OnePlus 8 (which does not have a separate depth sensor), but in fact, only the main and sometimes ultra-wide-angle modules can be useful (by the way, the latter is simplified – its resolution has become half the size).

At the same time, OnePlus has integrated a dual front camera into the Nord: a regular 32-megapixel module for self-portraits and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. The latter can be useful when you need to shoot with a group of friends in one shot.

The Nord will be available in blue and gray color options with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and will go on sale in the EU for € 399 (the 12GB / 256GB version will start at € 499). In Europe, sales will begin on August 4, but OnePlus plans to sell the devices through its own website from July 31. For now, the device will ship in Europe and India, although a limited launch has been promised in the US as well.
