Only a few games will fit on the Xbox Series S: the user will have access to only 364 GB of memory on the SSD

Not so long ago it became known that in the new generation consoles an impressive part of the memory is reserved by the system itself. Because of this, there is not much space left for installing games. In the Xbox Series X, 802 GB are allocated for them, and in the PlayStation 5, according to rumors, 664 GB. Now, similar data have flared up regarding the Xbox Series S, and they are depressing.

A Reddit forum user under the pseudonym spead20 managed to get his hands on a new-generation junior console from Microsoft a week before the official launch. First, he posted a photo of the console in a box and then shared information about the memory.

As announced during the announcement, the Xbox Series S comes with a custom 512GB NVMe SSD. According to spead20, only 364 GB of them are reserved for installing games, that is, 148 GB are reserved for the system, which cannot but surprise. Apparently, this is due to the Quick Resume function, which allows you to launch several projects at the same time and switch between them in a matter of seconds. A separate part of the SSD memory is probably allocated for this feature.

The Xbox Series S, like its big brother, allows for expandable internal storage. To do this, users will need to purchase a special PCIe Gen4x2 NVMe memory card with a capacity of 1 TB from Seagate. At the moment, only with the help of it, you can increase the storage in the new Xbox. The cost of the memory card is $ 220. But if you buy it and Series S, it will be more expensive than the Series X.

Sales of the new Xbox in Russia will begin on November 10. The Series S is priced at 26,990 rubles, and the Series X is 45,590 rubles.
