Samsung Electro-Mechanics to Deliver Rigid-Flexible Printed Circuit Boards (RFPCB)
We have already heard that iPhones this year will receive screens with a frequency of 120 Hz, and now there is a clarification in this regard from South Korea.
Only iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will get Samsung AMOLED screens at 120Hz
Sources say that only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will receive the new LTPO AMOLED screens with a 120Hz refresh rate. They will be manufactured exclusively by Samsung Display, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics will supply rigid-flexible printed circuit boards (RFPCB).
These boards are used to connect the OLED panel to the main board. The RF PCB board is rigid but can be folded, allowing for a more comfortable design (no chins) as well as faster transmission of electrical signals. RFPCBs are more expensive than more traditional FPCBs.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics considered going out of the RFPCB business last year as the company hasn’t made a profit for the past couple of years. The last product she supplied boards for was the iPhone 12.
Samsung Display is expected to ship 110 million iPhone panels this year. LG Display and BOE will ship 50 and 9 million units, respectively.
