OPPO and Xiaomi to release relatively affordable flexible smartphones next year

Interest in foldable smartphones is great, but so far only a small number of users buy them due to higher prices compared to classic candy bars. Smartphones-books will become cheaper only when more manufacturers start producing them. Now devices in this form factor are offered only by Samsung, Huawei, and Microsoft, but next year at least two more companies will join them.

According to the famous informant Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), OPPO and Xiaomi will enter the foldable smartphone market in 2021. Another novelty in this format will also be released by Huawei, which has already presented two models of a similar type.

OPPO and Xiaomi filed patent applications for their foldable smartphones last year, so there is no doubt about their appearance among the competitors of Samsung, Huawei, and Microsoft. The main intrigue for the consumer is the price. Both companies are known for offering flagship-spec smartphones at prices lower than, say, Samsung or Apple. By the way, Apple is also rumored to release a foldable smartphone next year.

Recall that at the end of October, information about the folding device Xiaomi Cetus appeared on the Web. The only thing known about the device is that it runs on the Android 11 operating system, has a 108-megapixel camera, and is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. As for OPPO, on November 17, 2020, it unveiled a concept smartphone whose flexible display is pulled out of the body.
