OPPO will be the third largest smartphone maker next year

In the second quarter of 2020, Huawei toppled Samsung from the leading position to become the world’s # 1 smartphone manufacturer by shipments. However, the balance of power should change dramatically next year. According to a new report from DigiTimes, next year Huawei will be in seventh place due to US sanctions. This is despite the fact that the smartphone market is likely to rebound in 2021, after three years of decline.

Overall market growth is expected to be driven by increased demand for fifth-generation cellular devices in the United States, Western Europe, and Japan. Global 5G smartphone sales are projected to grow from 200 million this year to 1.22 billion units in 2025.

In terms of market leadership, Samsung is expected to top the ranking. In second place will be Apple, and the Chinese tech giant OPPO will close the top three. The fifth and sixth places are expected to be taken by Vivo and Xiaomi.

This forecast largely confirms previous data, according to which Huawei’s sales will fall to 50 million smartphones shipped if the US does not ease sanctions against the Chinese tech giant. Huawei is estimated to have sold nearly 195 million smartphones by the end of this year.
