Original Shenmue Anime Announced

Shenmue: The Animation is a collaboration between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim and will be based on the Sega cult classic of the same name for the 1999 Dreamcast. Obviously, this is the expected mysterious announcement that we wrote about recently.

Crunchyroll said players can look forward to a 13-episode animated series from Telecom Animation Film (Tower of God, Lupin III: Part V). The production is directed by Chikara Sakurai, who was previously in charge of the anime Rurumo The Witch and Season 2 of One-Punch Man. Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki became executive producer.

This is almost everything we know about the project at the moment. Maybe soon on Crunchyroll Expo, we learn details ( probably fans,  fingers crossed, waiting for confirmation of the scene with a forklift).

The original game takes place in 1986 in the city of Yokosuka – the main character Ryo Hazuki, upon returning home, witnesses the death of his father. The murder was committed by Lan Di, before taking the Dragon’s mirror by force. Ryo decides to take revenge on Lan Di for his father’s death and embarks on an epic adventure in the trail of the killer. The hero finds himself in many unpleasant situations – he has to get out of them with the help of friends, luck, or fights.

The Shenmue series was considered dead until Shenmue III raised $ 6 million in a Kickstarter campaign in 2015. The game was released in November 2019 for PC and PS4. The return of the series was not a triumph: the project received 67 points on Metacritic and far from record sales.
