The crash affects 32-bit Office

Microsoft has acknowledged a glitch that users started complaining about after installing the June monthly Patch Tuesday. The company notes that Windows 10 and 11 users may encounter an error preventing Outlook and other applications from launching from a proprietary office suite.

According to Microsoft, the crash affects the 32-bit Office suite installed on 64-bit versions of Windows 10 and 11 (client versions 22H2 and 21H2, and Windows Server 2022).

Even though Microsoft changed the default Office installation from 32-bit to 64-bit in 2018, many may still be using the 32-bit version of Office. Additionally, according to Microsoft, the issue occurs on systems running an earlier version of Trellix Endpoint Security than 35.31.25.

Affected users can resolve the issue by updating Trellix Endpoint Security Agent to version 35.31.25 or newer. Although Microsoft has only mentioned Trellix Endpoint Security Agent, other antivirus applications can cause the same issue. Therefore, the company recommends that those who use other antimalware solutions and experience problems with Office applications should contact customer support for the software they are using.
