Overwatch will bring special passes to help you find a match with your desired role faster

Publisher Activision Blizzard spoke about the innovations in the matchmaking system in Overwatch. In the near future, the game will introduce Priority Passes, which can be used for team building. They will allow you to quickly find a group that suits the player’s chosen role. Essentially, passes can help eliminate long queues for those choosing popular positions on a team.

Priority Passes are earned in Overwatch for free. To do this, you just need to participate in battles using a flexible queue. It assigns the user the role that the team needs. Passes are issued both for winning and losing in such matches, only in the first case, there will be more of them. A player can store up to forty items of this type on an account.

In the standard queue, priority passes are used to quickly enter the match in the chosen position. In the lobby, the player will be shown the waiting time with and without a pass.

The described innovation should solve the problem of choosing roles. Some users will join flexible queues to collect passes, while others will spend their already accumulated passes in matches. It’s just not clear how the situation will develop when most players have enough of these items to speed up the search for a team.

In addition, there is a risk that Activision Blizzard might want to sell priority passes for real money. In this case, people willing to pay will never get into flexible queues.

Priority passes will be rolling out to the Overwatch test environment shortly and then reaching the main servers.
