TRACK ANIMAL – Pagani is known all over the world for its elite handcrafted hypercars that stand out for their performance and particularly sophisticated design. After the announcement of the Roadster version of the Huayra BC, Horacio Pagani takes the veils off the Huayra R.. Heir to the Zonda R presented at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, it was designed exclusively for the track, so it is not homologated for road use. Only 30 units will be produced which will have a unit price of 2.6 million euros (excluding taxes). The car was designed in collaboration with the German company HWA from Affalterbach, which specializes in racing cars. Through this partnership, the carbon-titanium frame, the V12 and the six-speed automatic transmission were developed.

THE V12 IS ASPIRATED – Pushing the Pagani Huayra R we find the naturally aspirated V12, called Pagani V12-R, which transfers power to the rear wheels, and capable of delivering 850 hp (625 kW) at 8250 rpm and torque maximum of 750 Nm, available from 5,500 up to 8300 rpm. The result of two years of development, the V12, in addition to a direct injection system at 200 bar, able according to the manufacturer to ensure maximum efficiency in terms of thermodynamics and autonomy, weighs only 198 kg, positioning itself at the top of the category.

FRONT CLUTCHES – Associated with the Pagani Huayra R V12 is a new six-speed sequential gearbox. Actuated by a 3-disc racing clutch in sintered metal, according to the manufacturer, the new front-shift gearbox guarantees 95% friction efficiency, offering precision in gear engagement, reduced shift times and an overall weight 80 kg. Fixed to the body together with the engine, so as to contribute to the overall stiffness of the frame, the transmission system has been designed to integrate with the entire suspension unit through dedicated fixing points.

FEATHER WEIGHT – All these measures, together with a painstaking work of rationalization of the weight and the frame made of composite materials including carbon-titanium, have allowed the Pagani Huayra R to stop the balance needle at 1,050 kg, and to guarantee greater torsional rigidity (+ 16%). The new monocoque integrally incorporates the seats, together with specific lateral structures for shock absorption and the roll-bar, so as to guarantee protection to the rider. Safety that is also ensured by the front frames, made of chromium-molybdenum steel alloy, and by the rear frame, in conjunction with the powertrain group.

TRACK AERODYNAMICS – Since the Pagani Huayra R is a car designed for the track, maximum care has been placed in aerodynamics, so as to ensure adequate load. According to the company, at 320 km / h the car is able to ensure up to 1,000 kg of downforce. This is possible thanks to the flat bottom, the large rear wing, the specific diffuser, the two profiles on the hood able to improve the speed of air extraction and “stabilize” the car, and the two side air intakes, designed to cool the sliding system and to divert the air flow towards the sides.

SOPHISTICATED CHASSIS – The sophisticated suspension in forged aluminum alloy, double overlapping triangles, coil springs and electronically controlled active shock absorbers ensure the Pagani Huayra R dynamic qualities at the height. Interconnected with the active aerodynamics system, the active suspension should ensure the Huayra R adequate response in all conditions. The braking system with self-ventilated CCM-R carbon-ceramic discs coupled with racing pads is also specific. The footprint on the road is guaranteed by the Pirelli P Zero slick version: front 275/675 R19, rear 325/705 R19.

TRACK EQUIPMENT – The cockpit of the Pagani Huayra R is essential but, as usual, with attention to every detail. All essential controls, such as traction control, ABS map selection, radio communication control and other important functions are available on the steering wheel with quick coupling, adjustable in height and length and removable to facilitate the access to the passenger compartment. Through the high resolution display of the central dashboard (customizable), it is possible to monitor the status of the vehicle. Since the seats are anchored to the body, the pedal is adjustable, so as to better adapt to the driver.
