Photo of the day: a star kindergarten through the eyes of the Hubble telescope

Today on the NASA / ESA Hubble Space Telescope website, under the heading “Image of the Week,” a magnificent picture of the structure with the designation AFGL 5180 has been released.

The named object is a star kindergarten, a star formation region located in the constellation Gemini.

In the central part of the image, there is a massive star in the stage of formation. It is responsible for forming two areas of gas and dust, which are perfectly visible in the upper right and lower left parts of the image (see below).

This mesmerizing image was taken with Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) aboard the Hubble Observatory. This camera allows you to capture images in the visible, near-infrared, near, and mid ultraviolet regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

We add that last year, Hubble celebrated its 30th anniversary. The space shuttle Discovery STS-31 with this observatory was launched on April 24, 1990. During its work in orbit, the telescope transmitted to Earth a huge number of magnificent pictures of the vastness of the Universe.
