Photo of the day: star fireworks in the vastness of the universe

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has released the most detailed image (see below) of an open star cluster, designated NGC 2203.

The named formation is located in the constellation Table Mountain. The structure was discovered back in 1836 by the English astronomer John Herschel.

The published image was transmitted from the orbiting Hubble Space Telescope (NASA / ESA Hubble Space Telescope). The observatory has produced the highest resolution image of NGC 2203 to date. In the photo, the structure resembles fireworks in the night sky.

Open star clusters are groups of luminaries (up to several thousand) formed from one giant molecular cloud and having approximately the same age. Moreover, the stars differ in mass, since they formed in different parts of the cloud.

NGC 2203 contains luminaries that are approximate twice the mass of our Sun. By examining this formation, scientists expect to collect additional data on stellar evolution.
