According to Vinpower, worldwide demand continues for 4.7GB DVD-R and DVD + R recordable media, also known as DVD5. However, most of the DVD burners on the market are not suitable for continuous high-volume DVD5 recording required for duplication and duplication. To address this shortcoming, Vinpower teamed up with Pioneer to create the Pioneer BDR-212V drive. The BDR-212V claims that “the DVD ± R recording functionality has been improved by significantly reducing the visibility of uneven symmetrical burn marks on the recordable side of the disc (also called Donut Rings), especially for popular single-layer DVD5 media.” Vinpower believes that discs may be difficult to read on other drives due to the defect described above. The BDR-212V delivers an even and uniform recording across the entire area, recording a single disc or multiple copies. Also noted was “particularly fine-tuning of the write strategy” for the DVD OPTODISC line of media, including 16x DVD-R, 16x DVD + R, 8x DVD-R, and 8x DVD + R discs.

“Most standard optical drive manufacturers are focusing on cost reduction, which directly impacts performance and functionality,” explained Ryan Swerdloff, vice president of Vinpower Digital. “Pioneer’s drives are a throwback to the days when optical disc drives were reliable and better suited to the harsh demands of the dubbing market, so we partnered with Pioneer to develop the BDR-212V.”

The drive can write BD-R discs at 16x, BD-R DL at 14x, BD-R (LTH) and M-DISC (BD) DL at 8x, M-DISC (BD) SL at 4x, BD-RE and BD-RE DL – at 2x speed. It records DVD ± R discs at 16x, DVD ± R DL and DVD + RW at 8x, DVD-RW at 6x, M-DISC (DVD) at 4x. The maximum write speed of CD-R is 40x, CD-RW is 24x.
