Police arrest suspect in Dallas, Texas, murders; man is latest alleged U.S. serial killer
In Dallas, Texas, police have arrested a 25-year-old man, Oscar Sanchez Garcia, in connection to the deaths of three women who are believed to be sex workers. He is the latest suspect to be charged in a series of sex worker slayings in recent months.
The Dallas Police Department identified Sanchez Garcia as the suspect in a preliminary investigation of three homicides in southwest Dallas based on evidence gathered by detectives. He is now facing three counts of murder.
The bodies of the three women were found over a period of three months in the Oak Cliff neighborhood near the Trinity River. Kimberly Robinson, 60, was found in late April, followed by Cherish Gibson, 25, two months later, and an unidentified third woman on July 15.
Police suspect that at least two of the victims have ties to prostitution. Advocates have raised concerns about violence against sex workers, emphasizing that they are often targeted because of their marginalized status.
The recent arrests of several suspected serial killers, including Rex Heuermann and Bryant Rivera, who allegedly targeted sex workers, have brought attention to the issue. Data indicates that sex workers face high rates of violence, including from law enforcement, making them particularly vulnerable.
The case in Dallas adds to the growing conversation surrounding violence against sex workers and the need for greater awareness and protection for this vulnerable community.
