Polish Consumer Protection Authority will check CD Projekt RED in connection with complaints about Cyberpunk 2077

The troubles with the premiere of the action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 do not stop. As it turned out, the problematic release of the game interested even UOKiK – the Office for Competition and Consumer Protection of Poland. If the company is found guilty, it can be punished with a fine of up to 10% of the income for the entire last year.

Cyberpunk 2077

If in the case of PC versions Cyberpunk 2077 received good or even very good marks (despite the existing problems), then the console editions turned out to be extremely unfinished in technical terms, especially on the basic Xbox One and PS4 systems. Some users considered them completely unplayable due to performance problems and a lot of bugs. Therefore, these players requested a refund, and Sony even decided to temporarily remove the game from the PlayStation Store. In addition, due to problems with the action role-playing game, CD Projekt RED’s share price collapsed, leading to investor class-action lawsuits against the company. And now UOKiK is interested in the problems of Cyberpunk 2077.

This was reported by the Polish edition Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. UOKiK representative Małgorzata Cieloch explained the situation. According to her, we are talking, first of all, about checking the progress of work on the promised patches, which should make the console versions of the project acceptable for the game:

“We asked the company to explain the problems with the game and the actions it took. We will check how the developers are working on fixing or eliminating problems that make it impossible to play on consoles, as well as how the company intends to act in relation to consumers who filed complaints and are unhappy with the purchase due to the lack of opportunity to enjoy the game on their platforms despite the previous the assurances of the creators. “

At the moment, it’s hard to say if CD Projekt RED will be punished. The decision in this case will depend on the explanations received by the UOKiK representatives. The company, of course, cannot ignore such a check, since the decision of the President of UOKiK may, as already noted, entail a fine of up to 10% of annual revenue. This is, of course, the worst and most unlikely scenario, but what does not happen.

We will probably hear more details about this case soon. Recall that despite a lot of confusion and problems, sales of Cyberpunk 2077 are doing very well. Just 10 days after its release, the game attracted 13 million customers (already taking into account the wave of returns).
