Preparing for Trilogy Finale Gets More Difficult: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Will Change Galaxy at War System

Electronic Arts and BioWare have unveiled the features of the upcoming Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Earlier today, we talked about the adjustments to the combat system in the first Mass Effect and numerous changes to the gameplay in three parts. In the final article, we will talk about the trilogy’s unification and the rebalancing of the Galaxy at War mechanics from Mass Effect 3.

ME Legendary Edition
ME Legendary Edition

In the Legendary Edition, BioWare unifies Shepard’s creation. In all three games, the hero will have the same appearance, and the character himself has become much better-looking thanks to the updated textures and hairstyles.

Also, the Legendary Edition contains the Mass Effect: Genisys comic, sponsored by Dark Horse. It would help determine the previous parts’ decisions before the start of Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 if you chose not to go through the first Mass Effect in the re-release.

Also, in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, you will find:

  • one launcher for all three games:
    • in the launcher, you can select the language and subtitles for all three games;
    • each game still uses separate saves that can be managed independently of each other;
  • updated options for character creation, as we talked about above:
    • Mass Effect 3 Shepard’s female skin is now the default skin in all three games (the original female skin is still selectable)
  • updated achievements in all three games:
    • new trophies have been added to the trilogy;
    • the progress of some achievements is taken into account throughout all three games (for example, “Kill 250 enemies in all games”);
    • some repeatable achievements have been merged, and duplicates have been removed;
    • several achievements have had their quests/descriptions and/or titles updated;
  • weapons and armor from DLC sets:
    • instead of opening them at the beginning, you can get them through research or purchase from merchants. Due to this, the overall balance of passing in Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 is achieved;
    • at the beginning of the game, it will be possible to get the Scout helmet (ME2) and the Cerberus Ajax armor (ME3);
  • additional improvements to the gameplay and quality of the game:
    • the sound was reworked and improved in all games;
    • fixed several hundred bugs that were present in the original versions;
    • full support for the gamepad and 21: 9 aspect ratio is implemented on the PC;
    • provided compatibility with DirectX 11.In the reissue, changes will also affect the Galaxy at War system from Mass Effect 3, in the framework of which the entire galaxy is preparing for a decisive battle with the Reapers. So, in the Legendary Edition, external factors such as multiplayer and a mobile application no longer affect the galaxy’s readiness indicator, so it will be more difficult to prepare for the final battle. For a successful outcome, you will have to go through the first two parts or almost completely clean out Mass Effect 3.

      However, it will be a little easier to train armies thanks to bug fixes and server enhancements to the Renegade Hero system in Mass Effect 2. As BioWare said, earlier errors led to the incorrect calculation of certain metrics that influenced dialogue options. With the fix, some key points have become more accessible in Mass Effect 2, reflected in Mass Effect 3.

      Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be released on May 14, 2021, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
