Presentation expected in September
Bloomberg reports that Foxconn has started production of the iPhone 15 in India to bridge the gap between its operations in India and its main manufacturing base in China.
Apple has long spoken of wanting to reduce its reliance on Chinese manufacturing, which is why it has been gradually ramping up production in India over the past few years. The iPhone 15 smartphones will be manufactured at Foxconn’s factory in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
Interestingly, the Indian plant will begin deliveries just a few weeks after the Chinese one. Prior to the launch of the iPhone 14, manufacturing in India lagged behind shipments from China by about 6 to 9 months.
Production of the iPhone 15 has already begun in India
This is also the first time that mass production of certain iPhone models in India has started before their official launch. For example, production of last year’s iPhone 14 in India began at the end of September.
The scale of production of the iPhone 15 in India depends on the availability of imported components and the expansion of production lines. The Pegatron and Wistron factories are also expected to start assembling the iPhone 15 soon.
In addition, DigiTimes reports that Foxconn plans to start manufacturing AirPods in India by the end of 2024.
