Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially confirmed that PS VR2 , the PS5 virtual reality headset , will not allow PS VR games to be played. In other words, the headset is not backwards compatible .
The confirmation was given via a podcast , shared via the PS Blog. Within this, we can hear the following statement that we propose to you in translation: “PS VR games are not compatible with PS VR2 because PS VR2 is created to offer a truly next-generation virtual reality experience.”
He continues stating: “PS VR2 has much more advanced features such as new controllers with haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, eye tracking, 3D audio. This means that developing PS VR2 games requires a completely different approach than the original PS. VR. ”
This is the reason given by Sony for the fact that PS VR2 will not be compatible with the games of the original PS VR. What do you think? Is this a problem for you, or is the new headset especially valuable for new games and not old ones? Finally, we leave you to our test at TGS 2022 of the new PS5 viewer , in which we explain “In general, the first and very brief encounter with PlayStation VR2 left pleasantly impressed. It remains to be seen what will be the selling price of a viewer that represents undoubtedly an important technological leap compared to the old model and, obviously, the quantity and quality of the games developed for PlayStation VR2 will be decisive when the hardware is put on the market in the course of 2023. “
