The team had to cancel all orders for the PlayStation 5 Retro Inspired and a similarly styled DualSense controller. On their official Twitter page, the developers reported the following:
Last night, our team began to receive real threats to their security. We take these threats seriously. We are not ready to risk the safety and well-being of our team, as well as the potential consequences that can lead to your order. “
Moreover, even the Twitter page itself was subsequently removed. It is not yet clear who these threats came from – from disappointed buyers who did not get the console, or from Sony lawyers. In any case, the SUP3R5 team promised to return all the money to those who placed orders.
Recall that the entire batch of PlayStation 5 Retro-Inspired was sold out in less than 20 minutes. As the creators of the project noted, they are “horrified” by the level of demand – in total, 54 thousand applications from users were submitted, which is a couple of orders of magnitude more than the planned volume of supplies.
