Publisher The Sinking City Rejects Allegations Of Hacking The Game

The French publishing house Nacon published a statement on its official website in connection with the current situation around the psychological detective The Sinking City and the game developers’ statements – the studio Frogwares.

Recall that in early March, Frogwares accused Nacon of hacking The Sinking City and publishing its pirated version on Steam, after which it achieved the removal of the project from the Valve store using a DMCA complaint.

The French publishing house called the studio unfounded accusations because Nacon “is contractually the exclusive distributor of The Sinking City on Steam

Frogwares also refused to facilitate the return of The Sinking City to Valve’s service, which, under the terms of the deal, leaves Nacon the right to outsource the game’s adaptation to a third party.

Nacon, however, The Sinking City on Steam still returned and did not even begin to deprive Frogwares of the legal payments that the studio could receive from the sale of a psychological detective on the site.

The publisher expressed regret over the conflict that had arisen (and especially Frogwares’ demand to remove The Sinking City from Steam), which they tried to avoid in every possible way.

Besides, Nacon did not hesitate to remind Frogwares about the investment in the game of € 10 million and unsuccessful (due to the decisions of the Paris court) attempts by the developers to cancel the contract.

Nacon retained the right to sue Frogwares for its “aggressive and biased” statements and stated that all decisions in the case have been in favor of the publisher.

The litigation between Frogwares and Nacon began in August 2020 and caused The Sinking City to disappear from sale across platforms periodically. Including a recent incident, the game has disappeared from Steam three times already.
