Qualcomm is one of the best-known brands in the smartphone world, with its SoC Snapdragon. This will be present in the vast majority of equipment and therefore it weighs heavily in much of this area.
With this weight, the American company now has an important novelty to present. Its Snapdragon line will change its name and grow as an independent brand. This will be a new life for the Snapdragon, who thus gain a unique autonomy.
It will be next week that Qualcomm will announce big news for its SoC line. The heir to the SoC that has dominated the Android smartphone world is expected to appear at the Snapdragon Tech Summit event.
Named until recently as Snapdragon 898, this will change its name, inaugurating a new line of products under a new name. These processors will lose the 3-digit designation and start to assume something in the line of X Gen X . Thus, this SoC should be called 8 Gen 1.
Furthermore, Qualcomm will drop the 5G designation in its proposals for a very simple reason. The company understands that the presence of this technology is already something natural in its proposals and as such its presence in their names is redundant.
This change should be extended to the rest of the SoC line, to create a new brand, with new names. This is already being seen in SoCs that are dedicated to PCs, where we have, for example, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 or the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2.
In addition to this name change, Qualcomm will also bring new colors to its brand. This will only be for promotional materials for these SoCs but will bring the gold to the top SoCs, the red to the midline, and the gray to the entry-level.
Finally, and this is an important point, the Qualcomm name will disappear from the designation of these SoCs. The Snapdragon name will be its own brand and therefore it will appear in an isolated and independent way.
