Concentrating on more expensive chips
Insider Roland Quandt says that Qualcomm may reduce investment in lower and mid-range SoCs.
The insider does not indicate his sources, but refers, among other things, to DigiTimes, which speak of a decline in the market as a whole, which, in fact, is already noticeable in various statistics.
In addition, Quandt says that now, in terms of these segments, there is only information about the SoC SM4450, which should be the successor to Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. That is, it will probably be Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. No information on other new platforms yet does not say anything, but indirectly confirms the rumors.
Given the dominance of MediaTek in these segments, Qualcomm may well concentrate on more expensive and productive solutions, where its position has always been very strong. Unfortunately, this will mean less competition in the lower segments and, as a result, less choice for consumers.
Roland Quandt fully declassified the GoPro 9 Black and GoPro 10 Black cameras prior to their announcement and revealed their exact cost, as well as published exact renders of the Nokia G21, Xiaomi Mi A3, Xiaomi Mi 9T, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and many other smartphones.
