Qualcomm Robotics RB5 5G – Snapdragon 865 Robotics Platform

Qualcomm Robotics RB5 5G – Snapdragon 865 Robotics Platform

The American manufacturer of microprocessor chips introduced the new Robotics RB5 platform, which is based on the Snapdragon 865 single-chip system. It uses the same CPU, GPU, and image processing processor like the Snapdragon 865. However, this platform can function perfectly in the temperature range from -40 ° C to 105 ° C. In addition, it includes improvements in computer vision.

The platform includes 4 Cortex-A77 cores in a 1 + 3 configuration, as well as 4 Cortex-A55 cores, an Adreno 650 graphics processor, a Spectra 480 image processor, and a Hexagon DSP digital signal processor. The platform can solve complex tasks related to artificial intelligence and computer vision, using DSP and GPU together.

The Spectra 480 image processor can process 2 gigapixels per second. This means that developers can connect up to seven cameras (suitable for fully autonomous robotics), as well as process 8K video and HDR 4K. The Spectra 480 also includes an engine for video analytics (EVA).

Regarding software options, Robotics RB5 will run on Ubuntu Linux, Yocto, and Robot Operating System (ROS) 2.0. It even supports AWS RoboMaker. Qualcomm has prepared the development kit Neural Processing SDK, Computer Vision SDK, and Robotics Vision SDK for computer vision, task recognition, detection of obstacles, and so on.
