Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 was noted in the benchmark – much faster than its predecessors, but Apple M1 is still far away
It’s been quite a while since Qualcomm unveiled its flagship chipset for computers – the Snapdragon 8cx debuted in December 2018. Of course, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 was launched last September, but it turned out to be just a slightly overclocked version of the original chip. The alleged Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 has now lit up on Geekbench.
Qualcomm’s new PC chip is expected to outperform its predecessors and Microsoft’s SQ1 and SQ2 chips. And the Geekbench benchmark results revealed today for the alleged Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 confirm those expectations. The new chipset significantly outperforms its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2, scoring 982 points in single-core and 4918 points in multi-core testing.
For comparison, the Microsoft SQ2 (a special version of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2) scores 794 and 3036 points in the same tests, respectively. As you can see, the growth is pretty good, but the new Qualcomm chip is still far from the Apple M1 performance. Apple’s processor scores 1,720 points in single-core and 7668 points in multi-core tests, nearly double the as-yet-unannounced Qualcomm chip.
The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4. The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 processors are expected to take advantage of Qualcomm’s recent acquisition of chipmaker Nuvia.
