Statistics indicate just that.
The coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent quarantine activities around the world have led, among other things, to people who, in isolation, have begun to use their smartphones even more. Of course, this also affected application statistics.
Quarantine is a great time to spend money on smartphone apps and games
According to App Annie, in the first quarter of this year, the time spent by users on smartphones increased by an average of 30%, up to 5 hours a day. Globally, the figure for Android devices has grown by 20%.
Of course, not only the time that people spend on smartphones and applications has grown, but also the money that they spend on these same applications. In the first quarter, consumers spent more than $ 23.4 billion in this way, a record quarterly figure. We’ll clarify that in this case, we are talking about software purchases in application stores, and not about spending within the applications themselves. The number of program downloads increased in quarterly terms by 15%, exceeding 31 billion. Of these, 22.5 billion fell on Google Play, and 9 billion – on the AppStore. The growth, respectively, amounted to 5% and 15%. Most often, users, of course, downloaded games and other applications for entertainment. Significant growth (30–40%) was also seen among sports and healthcare-related applications.
If we talk about the leaders, TikTok, WhatsApp and Facebook led the top ten most downloaded applications.
