Ram’s approach to marketing the new Ram 1500 Ramcharger can be called questionable, or even more simply, a deception.
Tim Kuniskis, Ram brand CEO, made the following statement in a press release announcing the Ram 1500 Ramcharger: “With unlimited battery range, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger is the pinnacle of the light-duty pickup segment and the ultimate electric truck. The new Ramcharger is a light-duty beast: 663 horsepower, 615 lb-ft of torque, 4-second 0-60 mph time, 6,350 kg towing… and no need for a public charger.”
Yes, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger can use its gasoline generator to provide electricity to the battery, but its “unlimited” range is essentially limited by how much gas can fit in the tank.
Ram went too far with its Ram 1500 Ramcharger ad, claiming “unlimited” range
Kuniskis also mentions “no need for a public charger,” which is true for any plug-in hybrid. At the same time, the Ramcharger was equipped with 400 V DC fast charging: “Ram offers customers a fast and convenient charging solution that allows them to increase their all-electric battery range to 50 miles in approximately 10 minutes with 400 V DC fast charging with a power of up to 145 kW”.
The pickup produces 663 horsepower and 615 Nm of torque. The Ramcharger has a maximum payload capacity of 1,190 kg. Prices have not been announced.
