Razer Introduces Viper 8K Gaming Mouse with Huge 8000Hz Polling Rate

Razer has updated its Viper Symmetrical Gaming Mouse, the original version of which was introduced in 2019. Externally, the new product, called the Viper 8K, has not changed. Is that the Razer Speedflex cable has become a little thicker, and she herself “fatter” from 69 to 71 grams. The main differences of the updated gamepad are hidden inside.

Designed for professional gamers, the Viper 8K features the new Focus Plus optical sensor with up to 20,000 DPI. The original model used a 16,000 DPI sensor.

At the same time, the updated gamepad received the latest mechanical-optical switches. They made the mouse buttons more responsive and gave them increased feedback, as indicated by the manufacturer.

The most important feature of the Viper 8K is its polling rate, which is 8 times higher than any other competitor’s offering. Its maximum rate is 8000 Hz. The polling rate is responsible for how often the mouse will tell the PC where the cursor is on the screen. The higher the value, the smoother the cursor movements will be. In the case of the Viper 8K, it transmits this information 8000 times per second, which ultimately also reduces its response time from one millisecond to 1/8 millisecond.

Sounds impressive, but The Verge was never able to see the stated poll rate. To check it, he used special software from Mouse Insider and Zowie, which showed an average polling rate of 4700 Hz with rare peaks up to 5000 Hz. The journalist admits that perhaps he himself did not move the mouse quickly enough at the time of the tests, but does not exclude that the matter may also be in how modern a computer is at the user’s disposal. Razer itself recommended that reviewers use at least an Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600-based PC, equipped with a GeForce GTX 1080 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 graphics card, and a monitor with a refresh rate of 144 Hz for maximum results.

Fortunately, the Viper 8K does not need such a powerful computer to be able to use it. In addition, you can always lower the polling rate if you want. A total of five sensitivity levels are provided with values of 125, 500, 1,000, 2,000, or 4000 Hz. However, since the main focus of the Viper 8K is to provide a smoother user experience, having a smaller computer with a good monitor is only beneficial.

In the Razer brand store, they ask for the same $ 80 for the Viper 8K, as they once asked for the original model.
