In 2023, the second RD-171MV should also be assembled

Roskosmos announced today the completion of the production of the RD-171MV liquid-propellant rocket engine for the first flight tests of the new Soyuz-5 rocket. The thrust of the engine must exceed 800 tons, and this makes the RD-171MV the most powerful in the world.

Work on the engine began in the summer of 2017, during which time design and technical documentation was issued, production was prepared, and autonomous testing of units and parts was carried out. To date, more than two dozen fire tests of the RD-171MV have been carried out, the next stage is interdepartmental tests of the RD-171MV and the serial delivery of engines for Soyuz-5.

Soyuz-5 will be launched at Baikonur from a site that was previously used to launch Ukrainian Zenit missiles. The two-stage Soyuz-5 rocket will be able to launch up to 17 tons of payload into the reference orbit.
