Recovering deleted files in Windows 10 will become easier

According to online sources, the developers from Microsoft intend to simplify the process of recovering files that were deleted in Windows 10. We are talking about expanding the capabilities of the Windows File Recovery utility, an updated version of which recently appeared in test builds of the operating system available as part of the Microsoft insider program.

At the beginning of last year, Microsoft released the Windows File Recovery utility, with which you can recover deleted files, even if they were erased from the Recycle Bin. This tool can be useful if a user accidentally deleted some important documents and needs to be restored.

The mentioned utility is a command-line tool, so it is not convenient for all users to use it. The developers plan to speed up Windows File Recovery and add new features. It is reported that the utility will receive support for “regular” and “advanced” modes.

According to the available data, the “normal” mode will scan NTFS drives for deleted files with the possibility of their subsequent recovery. This mode is good for recovering files that were recently deleted. It is noted that to use the “normal” mode, it is enough to have a basic knowledge of working with the command line, which makes it more accessible. In this mode, the utility may be ineffective if the free space on the disk has been overwritten or the file in question has been deleted from the SSD.

If you need to recover files that were deleted a long time ago, then the “extended” mode is recommended for this. It also works in cases where a damaged disk is being scanned.

New features of Windows File Recovery are currently being tested in beta versions of Windows 10. They will be available in stable versions of the software platform later this year.
