The dark theme has not yet become officially available to users
Microsoft has significantly redesigned its famous graphic editor Paint with the release of the Windows 11 operating system. However, the application still lacks dark mode support.
It’s been a few months since the redesigned Paint app was released, but Windows Insiders Testers have yet to get access to the dark theme.
However, WindowsLatest thematic resource has published a selection of screenshots that demonstrates the dark theme in the new Paint.
Unfortunately, you can only customize Windows with additional dark mode effects using a new open-source third-party app called Windhawk . A mod has been added to Windhawk that enables support for hidden dark mode in Paint on any version of Windows 11 (21H2 or newer).
As noted in WindowsLatest, support for dark mode for Paint is already present in the OS, however, in order to activate it, you will either have to manually edit the application code or use the Windhawk mod.
It’s also worth noting that third-party “hacks” are generally not recommended for enabling hidden features. Therefore, you can try Windhawk solely at your own peril and risk, or better, only on a virtual machine.
