Resident Evil Village developers tried not to make the game too scary

Resident Evil Village producer Tsuyoshi Kanda told Game Informer how the development team tried to balance action and horror elements in the new game.

According to Kanda, at Resident Evil Village, the team did not try to replicate the effect achieved in Resident Evil 7 but tried to find for it “a variation that would work for a wider audience

As part of this initiative, Capcom has added an updated upgrade system to the Resident Evil Village, more cunning and faster enemies (particularly werewolves), and the verticality of locations.

Apparently, Capcom will not compensate for the focus on action elements with an outrageous degree of horror: the developers were afraid to make Resident Evil Village too scary.

“It can be tough for us to determine the right level [horror] because we are so close to the project and work on it every day. You have to take a step back and decide if [this or that element] is too scary, ” Kanda said.

The producer added: “What you saw in the ‘7’ with its variations will be in Resident Evil Village. Shocking moments defining games. They definitely haven’t gone anywhere

Resident Evil Village will go on sale on May 7 this year for PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Google Stadia. The final demo will be released on May 2 and will remain available for eight days instead of one.
