Resident Evil Village scored first – critics were divided
As promised, on the evening of May 5, the ban on the publication of review materials on the upcoming horror Resident Evil Village from the Japanese publisher Capcom ended.
Resident Evil Village received more than 80 ratings on Metacritic, which were divided between target platforms as follows: PS5 (68 reviews), PC (12), Xbox Series X and S (6), PS4 (3). The game was not popular on Xbox One and Google Stadia.
In terms of the average score on Metacritic, the PC version performed best – 86%. PS5 lags slightly behind (84%) and even more behind – Xbox Series X and S (82%). The remaining systems did not receive the required number of reviews to compile the rating.
For comparison: Resident Evil 7 – the previous numbered part of the series – at one time was awarded on Metacritic from 83 to 86%, depending on the target platform. The spread is similar, but this time there are many more opposed opinions.
This is especially true of the plot of Resident Evil Village, which, with all its twists and turns and unexpected revelations (several publications also noted problems with the pace), did not appeal to everyone.
The focus on action elements made itself felt. There is less horror than Resident Evil 7, but the new game stands out favorably against the background of its predecessor in terms of the variety of locations and enemies.
In terms of duration, contrary to early reviews, Resident Evil Village was only slightly longer than recent releases, with most reviewers hitting 10 hours.
Resident Evil Village performs well from a technical point of view, but the reviewers have encountered (mainly on consoles) slow loading textures and performance drops in the ray-tracing model.
Resident Evil Village will go on sale on May 7 this year for PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Google Stadia. Even though the game has not yet been released, it is already popular with modders.
