Return to Castle Rock: We Were Here Forever, a co-op puzzle game announced for PC and consoles

Return to Castle Rock: We Were Here Forever, a co-op puzzle game announced for PC and consoles

Dutch studio Total Mayhem Games has announced  We Were Here Forever, the fourth game in the We Were Here co-op puzzle adventure series. The release will take place in the last quarter of 2021 on PC ( Steam ), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and S.

In the third part, We Were Here Together, the action began in atypical locations for the series – in the camp, ice caves, and freezing wastelands – but then users again found themselves in the ominous Antarctic Castle Rock from the first two games. There they will be in the fourth part. The atmosphere will become even more mysterious and eerie: “ancient forces” will rise against the heroes, and it may turn out that more powerful creatures are hiding in the castle than the already familiar Jester.

As before, users will have to solve puzzles jointly. Most often, players will be in different rooms, so you will have to communicate via voice communication actively. It is required to explain what is happening to each other clearly – this is especially important in dangerous situations when decisions need to be made quickly. According to the authors, We Were Here Together is the largest and most “animated” part of the series.

Each of the series’ games can only be played in online cooperative mode and with a microphone. The creators note that We Were Here Forever is also suitable for those unfamiliar with the series. Even though the stories are connected, each part is a separate adventure, and you can go through them in any order.

The recommended system requirements include a 4th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970-level graphics card. The game will take up 20GB of hard disk space. The adventure will only be available in English.

The original We Were Here, developed as part of a student project, was released for free in February 2017. We Were Here (the studio’s first commercial game) appeared a year later, and We Were Here Together in October 2019. First, puzzles came out on PC, and after a while, they became available on Xbox One. On the PlayStation 4, all three parts were transferred in February this year (the first one remained free only on Steam ).

We Were Here, and We Were Here Together have “very positive” reviews on Steam (estimates based on 15K and 4.5K, respectively). We Were Here Too received slightly fewer positive reviews – they were “mostly positive” (over 3,000 reviews in total).
