Reviewers named the iPhone 12 Pro Max camera the best of all smartphones

Apple has allowed reviews of the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, which will go on sale next Friday. For the most part, we’re talking about the iPhone 12 Pro Max below in this collection of reviews, but some videos and text reviews cover both the iPhone 12 Mini and the 12 Pro Max.

In general, the conclusions from previous reviews of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro smartphones are true for the 12 Mini and Pro Max, respectively: in terms of autonomy, performance, and cameras. Unless the Mini will have a slightly lower battery life (other characteristics, except for the screen diagonal, are identical to the iPhone 12). The most interesting, of course, is the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which has the most advanced camera system of all Apple smartphones.

In this device, the main camera received a 47% larger sensor, so the sensitivity is increased even more. It also has better sensor-shift stabilization, which can perform up to 5000 corrections per second – which promises sharper images in low light compared to lens stabilization. Also, the iPhone 12 Pro Max uses a different telephoto module – it offers 2.5x optical zoom, but at a slightly lower aperture (f / 2.2).

But let’s move on to brief conclusions from the reviews. In his video feedback, Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, shared his thoughts on the new iPhone 12 Pro Max. While in his iPhone 12 Pro review he expected the iPhone 12 Pro Max to perform better thanks to camera enhancements, much to his surprise, he barely noticed a difference in image quality, even between the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max:

In addition to the in-depth video review, The Verge also shared a detailed text review titled “The Best Smartphone Camera on the Market. ” In it, The Verge Editor-in-Chief Nilay Patel expectedly focused almost entirely on camera capabilities, praising the larger sensor improvements, claiming the iPhone 12 Pro Max takes better, more detailed and quieter photos than the Pixel 5 and Samsung Galaxy. Note 20 Ultra.

In addition to the featured video review, Engadget also posted a text review of the iPhone 12 Pro Max called Better, Not Just More. In it, Engadget Senior Editor Chris Velazco praises the big screen, best-in-class performance, and an upgraded camera system. However, as with Brownlee’s review, he noted that the best cameras in the iPhone 12 Pro Max aren’t fundamentally superior.

Like Engadget and The Verge, CNet also posted a video and text review of the new iPhone 12 Pro Max, titled “The Power of a Big Phone. ” Echoing the sentiment of other materials, CNet senior editor Patrick Holland said that when comparing the 12 Pro Max’s photos with the regular 12 Pro, the differences are not immediately apparent. However, he pointed out that this is not so much a reproach to the 12 Pro Max as an indicator of the good camera quality on the regular iPhone 12 Pro.

As a more real-world example, commercial videographer and blogger Andy To used the new iPhone 12 Pro Max to capture his trip home to Auckland in a cinematic manner using the only video captured with a smartphone. The five-minute video lacks narration, it just demonstrates the camera’s capabilities. All videos were shot in HDR mode without the use of external lenses in 4K / 60p or 4K / 24p and then edited in Final Cut Pro X.
