Beckett Cypher, the son of American rock star Melissa Etheridge, died at age 21. A message on behalf of the artist appeared on her Twitter account on Thursday, May 14th.

Etheridge noted that before her death, her son struggled with opioid dependence, hinting that he had died from a drug overdose.

“Today I joined hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones due to opioid addiction,” she wrote.

“It’s hard for us because of thoughts about what else we could do to save him, but in the end, we know that he no longer suffers,” the singer added.
