Rocket Lake-S processors will be presented on March 16, but will go on sale two weeks later

The Wccftech resource has become aware of the official dates for the announcement and sales of new Intel Rocket Lake-S processors. New items will be presented on March 16. Besides, it is noted that some retailers will be able to open preliminary sales on March 16. The reason for the two-week delay between the announcement and the start of sales is the manufacturer’s desire to maximize the new BIOS firmware for motherboards with support for new processors. Recall that Rocket Lake-S will work not only with the new Intel 500 series motherboards but also with motherboards based on Intel Z490 and Intel H470 system logic.

Previous leaks made it clear that in the 11th generation of Core processors, the manufacturer focused on improving single-threaded performance. The flagship Rocket Lake-S models will get two cores and four virtual threads less than their Comet Lake-S predecessors and will come in 8 physical and 16 virtual cores. Nevertheless, Intel promises a significant increase in performance over the previous generation.

Currently, the company has published only three official slides regarding the future flagship model Core i9-11900K of the Rocket Lake-S series. One of the reports the characteristics of the processor. It is indicated that the chip will be able to automatically overclock up to 4.8 GHz across all cores (or up to 5.3 GHz on one core) and will offer support for 20 PCIe 4.0 bus lanes, the advantage of which can be used with new video cards and NVMe drives with support for the corresponding interface.

In the second slide, the company compares the Core i9-11900K processor’s gaming performance against the 12-core Ryzen 5900X. According to the charts, the new blue flagship is up to 8% faster than the competitor, despite the latter’s advantage in cores and threads.

In the third slide, which was revealed today, the company reports that PCIe 4.0 SSDs are up to 11% faster with Rocket Lake chips than with Ryzen 5000.
