RENERA LLC, part of the TVEL fuel company of Rosatom, has completed the acquisition of a 49% stake in the South Korean company Enertech International, which produces electrodes, lithium-ion storage cells and energy storage systems. Under the agreement, Russia will have its own production of lithium-ion cells and energy storage systems. The start-up of the first stage should take place in 2025, and the expected capacity of the enterprise by 2030 is at least 2 GWh. Russian-made lithium-ion traction batteries will be used in electric buses, electric vehicles, and special equipment.
Rosatom will manufacture traction batteries for electric vehicles
The new production is part of Rosatom’s strategic work to develop non-nuclear businesses. Natalya Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC, commented on this event: “The merger with a technology partner is a strategically important stage for the development of Rosatom’s business in the energy storage segment. This will increase production capacity, significantly enhance our competencies and developments in the field of lithium-ion batteries, and also open up access to foreign markets.
