The Research Institute for Technology and Organization of Engine Production (NIID, part of the United Engine Corporation of Rostec) has developed a method for hardening the surface layer of compressor blades for gas turbine engines – it will increase the overhaul life of aircraft power plants by 1.5–2 times.

“ The new method made it possible to increase the hardening depth by almost 2.5 times and increase the fatigue strength of the blades by more than 18%. As for the resource characteristics, it contributes to an increase in the overhaul life of the engine by about 1.5–2 times , ”said Sergey Pavlinich, director of the NIID branch of JSC UEC.

At the moment, the technology is being tested on the AI-222-25 bypass turbojet engine.
