Rumors: Microsoft will stop charging for access to multiplayer on Xbox consoles
Insider Klobrille, who specializes in providing behind-the-scenes information on Xbox Game Studios projects, on the ResetEra forum hinted at a future change in Microsoft’s policy regarding multiplayer payments for Xbox games.
Currently, to participate in online battles on the consoles of the American platform holder, you must subscribe to Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
According to Klobrille, Xbox Live Gold is “an artificial barrier preventing the creation of a seamless ecosystem between set-top boxes, PCs and [cloud] xCloud. “
Klobrille also assured that Microsoft’s refusal to pay for multiplayer is just a matter of time. A similar point of view was expressed by VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb in a recent CrossFire podcast.
Microsoft previously removed the 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscription from its digital store. The company did not name the reason for this decision, but it is assumed that the service is waiting for changes.
Let’s remind, Xbox Live Gold is already included in the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and from September the Project xCloud cloud service will also become part of the “ultimatum” subscription. The price of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will not change.
This coming Thursday, July 23rd, Microsoft will air the Xbox Games Showcase. No news about Xbox Live Gold at the event: the company has confirmed that the show will be dedicated exclusively to games.
