Rumors: sales of superhero action movie Marvel’s Spider-Man exceeded 20 million copies
A Twitter user under the pseudonym Timur222 drew attention to the fact that the senior manager of global marketing for the PlayStation brand, David Bull, announced on his LinkedIn profile that Marvel’s Spider-Man had reached a new peak in sales.
Recall that the last time the success of the superhero action movie from Insomniac Games was reported in Sony Interactive Entertainment was in the summer of 2019 – by the end of August, more than 13.2 million copies of the game had been sold around the world.
Bull, on his LinkedIn page, gave a completely different figure – over 20 million copies. Apparently, the information was provided even before the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
It is noteworthy that shortly after the discovery of Bull, the line about 20 million sales of Marvel’s Spider-Man was removed from his resume, but Timur222 managed to take a screenshot of the initial version of the page.
Earlier, thanks to his observation, Timur222 discovered new information on the sales of Batman: Arkham City ( 12.5 million copies ) and God of War: Ascension ( 3 million ), as well as the release dates for the PS5-exclusive Returnal.
Marvel’s Spider-Man was released in September 2018 on PlayStation 4. Until the premiere of The Last of Us Part II, the game held the record for the fastest-selling for PS4 exclusives – 3.3 million in three days.
The PlayStation 5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man went on sale (only as part of the full edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales) with the launch of the console in first wave countries on November 12, 2020.
