Samsung and LG to stop shipping displays for Huawei smartphones

South Korean companies Samsung Display and LG Display are planning to stop supplying displays for smartphones from Huawei Technologies due to the US trade sanctions imposed on the Chinese manufacturer. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the South Korean resource  Chosun Biz.

Samsung Display, the main supplier of OLED panels for both Samsung smartphones and Apple devices, declined to comment on the situation, the source said. LG Display, in turn, issued a statement in which it indicated that the restrictive measures imposed by the US government would not greatly affect the business of the South Korean manufacturer. The company has previously supplied only a limited number of panels to Huawei, so it intends to continue expanding its customer base.

The US tightened restrictive measures against Huawei last August. The US government has banned component suppliers from selling their products to the Chinese telecommunications giant without special permission if US technology was used in its production.

It is indicated that Samsung Display and LG Display will stop shipping displays to Huawei from September 15th. The supply ban also covers additional components used to assemble the screens of smartphones of the Chinese brand.

Earlier it was also reported that Samsung and SK Hynix will stop supplying memory chips for Huawei smartphones next week.
