Strategy Analytics has estimated the size of the global smartphone display market: panel shipments are growing in monetary terms, despite the pandemic that triggered a decline in sales of cellular devices in physical terms.

According to the source, in the second quarter of this year, displays were delivered in the amount of $ 9.5 billion, which is 2% more compared to the same period in 2019. The result of the first half of this year is $ 18.6 billion, which corresponds to a 3% growth.

The increase in the market in monetary terms, analysts associated with an increase in demand for expensive displays on organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). At the same time, shipments of LCD screens are decreasing.

The undisputed market leader is Samsung Display with a share of about 50% in the total revenue in the first half of 2020. In other words, the South Korean giant controls half of the global smartphone panel industry.

BOE is in second place with 15% of the market, and Tianma closes the top three with 8%. Thus, the top three companies collectively control nearly three-quarters of the industry. The total share of all other suppliers at the end of the first half of 2020 amounted to 27% in monetary terms.
