Samsung could face a problem in mastering 5nm technology

According to the resource DigiTimes, the South Korean company Samsung Electronics could face problems in the production of 5nm semiconductor products. The source points out that if Samsung cannot resolve the issue in time, then Qualcomm’s future flagship mobile chipset may be under attack.

Resource DigiTimes reports that the South Korean company planned to switch to the use of the 5-nm process technology in August this year. The first product based on it was supposed to be the Exynos 992 mobile processor. But according to the source, the technology giant faced a high level of defects in the production of 5nm products. That is why, according to the latest rumors, the future series of Samsung Galaxy Note 20 smartphones will be built on the old Exynos 990 processors, and not on the improved Exynos 992 chip.

The report also says the issue could affect the launch timing of Qualcomm’s new flagship 5G mobile chipset series. Although the source does not indicate which series is in question, according to earlier rumors, Samsung received an order from Qualcomm for the production of Snapdragon 875G chips. In addition, a Korean contractor is known to be responsible for producing some of the X60 5G modems, while TSMC will be responsible for the rest of the X60.

Early reports also suggested that Samsung had already begun developing the new flagship Exynos 1000 chipset, which would also use the 5nm process technology. If Samsung really has problems of a production nature, it remains only to hope that it can solve them until the moment when the chip project will need to be transferred to the factories.
