Apple is expected to release four iPhone 12 models this year.
Samsung Display, which now supplies displays for Apple smartphones, has been selected as the supplier for the iPhone models that will be presented in the second half of the year.
Although Apple tried to lessen its reliance on Samsung Display by transferring some orders to LG Display and eventually terminating the contract for the supply of OLED screens for the iPhone, this plan did not seem to be implemented.
According to information from various sources, Samsung Display will continue to supply Apple OLED panels.
However, the South Korean manufacturer will not be the only supplier for the 2020 iPhone model. According to rumours, LG Display and the Chinese company BOE have received orders for OLED panels for cheaper iPhone models.
Apple is expected to release four iPhone models this year: iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Models iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max are credited with OLED displays of 5.4 inches and 6.1 inches, respectively, with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. All three companies will supply them. And on the more expensive iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max models, 6.1 and 6.7-inch displays with a refresh rate of 120 Hz from Samsung Display will be used.
According to unconfirmed information, these will be Y-OCTA panels, the thickness of which is reduced due to the absence of a film substrate and the placement of the touch input circuit directly on the glass substrate.
Even more advanced OLTP OLED displays, which support variable refresh rates and demonstrate increased energy efficiency compared to the previous generation OLED panels, Apple will not get. They can be found on Samsung Galaxy Note 20 smartphones.
