Samsung Electronics may begin construction of a $ 17 billion chip factory in the United States in the third quarter of this year, hoping to be operational in 2024. The source said this, citing the South Korean edition of the Electronic Times, in turn, citing unnamed industry sources.

At the facility, which is expected to be located in Austin, Texas, Samsung plans to implement an advanced chip manufacturing process using EUV lithography and 5 nm process technology.

The South Korean manufacturer himself claims that the decision on construction has not been made yet.

The first reports that Samsung is considering Austin as one of the sites for a new chip factory appeared back in February .
