Samsung Galaxy Book S: world’s first laptop with Intel Lakefield hybrid CPU goes on sale starting at $ 950

The original Samsung Galaxy Book S, announced in August 2019, was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx processor. However, in late spring 2020, the South Korean giant unveiled a version of the model with the Intel Lakefield hybrid hardware platform. Now the novelty officially goes on sale, becoming the first laptop in the world built on the basis of the Core i5-L16G7.

The Core i5-L16G7 processor contains five processing cores. Four of them are small, energy-efficient Atom-class cores with Tremont architecture. One is the Big Core Sunny Cove. Thanks to a combination of cores with different structures, Intel was able to achieve idle power consumption of no more than 2 mW and a TDP of 7 watts. In the manufacture of the chip, the Foveros 3D layout technology is used, which allows combining a 22-nm substrate with 4 MB of L3 cache memory, a set of system logic, a 10-nm crystal with computing cores and a graphics core, as well as a layer of LPDDR4 RAM with a capacity of 8 GB.

Returning to the Samsung Galaxy Book S, we note that the laptop is equipped with a 13.3-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, 256 or 512 GB eUFS storage with expandable microSD card, a battery with a capacity of 42 Wh, four AKG speakers, and a Wi-Fi 6 wireless adapter. A version with a SIM card slot and LTE (Cat 16) support is available. The laptop weighing 950 grams is made in a fanless case with a thickness of 11.8 mm and is offered in two colors – golden and gray. The laptop starts at $ 950.
