Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will receive an improved 108-megapixel camera with laser autofocus, but no lidar

According to the latest rumors, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S21 flagship smartphone family on January 14, 2021. According to the authoritative insider Ice Universe, the S21 Ultra, the most advanced smartphone in the series, will receive a significantly improved main camera compared to the current generation. The main sensor will still be 108 megapixels, but the device will lose the ToF sensor.

An insider said that although the resolution will remain the same, a completely different sensor will be used in the new flagship. He says the new product will boast an ISOCELL HM3 sensor. As a reminder, the Galaxy S20 Ultra uses ISOCELL Bright HM1. The new sensor is said to provide 12 percent better light sensitivity, resulting in more detailed images. In addition, the shooting speed is increased in low light.

The disappearance of the ToF sensor in the new flagship will be compensated for by laser autofocus. At first glance, it seems that this is a step back, but the same solution is used in the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, where it has worked well. Experts say the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s ToF sensor is not very useful, so the loss will not be serious.

Recall that, according to available data, smartphones of the Galaxy S21 series will be based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 or Samsung Exynos 2100 chipset, depending on the sales region. In addition, it was previously reported that they will be equipped with the yet-unannounced Galaxy Buds Beyond wireless headphones, which retail for about $ 150.
