Kirin 990 is now better than Exynos 990
Today, there are several flagship single-chip systems on the market that can compete to one degree or another with the top Qualcomm solutions. In particular, Samsung uses its own Exynos SoC, while Huawei uses Kirin.
For example, now part of the Galaxy S20 line is built on Exynos 990, and the flagships of Huawei and Honor are built on Kirin 990. And, as tests show, Kirin 990, despite the fact that it appeared on the market last fall, is much better than the latest Exynos 990 In particular, the latter is subject to strong throttling, which is why in games performance may fall by half or even three times.
Even before the release of the Galaxy S20, there were rumors that Samsung will abandon the Exynos 990 in the new flagships, but this did not happen. After this platform showed itself very mediocre, Samsung again thought about stopping using their own solutions in flagships.
According to the source, Samsung also cannot completely switch to Qualcomm’s flagship SoC for various reasons, ranging from the lack of a sufficient number of chips at the beginning of each year to economic considerations.
What is the way out?
Use top solutions from other manufacturers: MediaTek or Huawei. And it seems that the second option for Samsung is preferable. A source says that Samsung is negotiating with Huawei regarding the use of a single-chip Kirin 1000 system in the Galaxy S21. Samsung will enable it to replace its own failed Exynos SoCs with more technologically advanced Kirin SoCs, and for Huawei, it is beneficial for two reasons at once: firstly, now the company has big problems, and additional money for it will not be superfluous, and secondly, Samsung’s flagships on Kirin will provide Huawei with additional advertising.
