Samsung Galaxy S22 prototype overheats

Chinese sources report that Samsung is currently testing the 8K 60fps video recording feature on the first Galaxy S22 prototype. However, at this stage, the prototype overheats after 5 minutes.

Samsung previously added 8K video recording to the Galaxy S20 smartphones and allowed shooting at 24fps, but users can only record 5 minutes of video due to overheating issues. Earlier, an 8K movie on the Samsung Galaxy S20 grows to 3 GB in 5 minutes. Allegedly, for this reason, Samsung has set the bar at around 5 minutes. The Galaxy S21 has the same limitation.

This begs the question: What platform does Samsung use to prototype the Galaxy S22? The Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 1200 SoCs only support 8K video recording at 30fps (but can play 8K at 60fps). Samsung is expected to release its new Exynos platform in the second half of this year, supporting 8K video recording at 60fps.

The insider adds that if the overheating problem persists, then Samsung may delay the addition of this feature until the Galaxy S23 launches.
