Samsung has announced that it has completed development of the industry’s first GDDR7 graphics memory.

The new memory will operate at an effective frequency of 32 GHz, but apparently this is not the limit, since the same Samsung said at the end of last year that it was working on GDDR7 with a frequency of up to 36 GHz.

Samsung introduced GDDR7 with a frequency of 32 GHz

GDDR7 memory delivers 1.5 TB/s bandwidth, 1.4 times that of GDDR6’s 1.1 TB/s, and delivers up to 32 Gb/s higher output transfer rates. This is made possible by PAM3 (pulse amplitude modulation).

It is not yet clear when such memory can be expected in graphics cards, but key Samsung customers will receive such memory for testing later this year.

Recall that the current GDDR6X memory can operate at a frequency of 21-22 GHz. More precisely, these are the frequencies that we see in the latest video cards, and such memory can be overclocked to higher frequencies. Thus, with the same memory bus, GDDR7 will provide 45-50% more bandwidth than GDDR6X in its best variants.
